Artist Demonstrators

Tolland Art Center, 22 Tolland Green

Meetings are open to all and demos are free

7 – 9pm

September 11   Jackie Jones    how to paint clouds in oil paints.
Jackie’s paintings summon ephemeral moments and emotions that are conceived in nature. Her rich color palette and lively brushwork capture the scents and sounds of the land; the rushing streams, rolling surf, nesting birds, rustling grasses and salted winds of coastal New England as well as the sights and sounds of the city.  Don’t you want to see how this can be accomplished with paint, brush and canvas?  Come and see!

October 9    Jane Penfield   how to start and work with a Sketch Journal
Award-winning artist Jane Penfield is drawn to nature, as well as to the human influence on it. She is especially attracted to elements that evoke light, drama, and emotion. Her work is an impression of light and life as she has experienced it through walking, travel, and direct observation.  Jane’s pastels have consistently won awards. Where does she get her ideas? And how does she move them into her painting? A Sketch Journal is an excellent idea to keep those ideas organized and ready at hand.

This exhibit is for TCAA Members, and it’s one thing that we’ve had since our beginnings over 68 years ago. Art is an ongoing, growing, inspirational and skilled talent amongst so many of us local people. Joan Burbank & Ronnie Klukas did a fantastic job organizing the show and getting the many prizes. They had some great helpers that helped hang the show, brought food and did other jobs. Thank you all! We have fun!  Also several useful art related door prize gifts valuing several hundreds of dollars are raffled off. This show is not juried, so you could enter any wall hung media that you have done.

67 YEARS! Can you believe it!  This show is the backbone of the Tolland County Art Association and is in it’s mission statement to provide the fine arts and exhibits in a local environment.

One of our members, June Mita, blogs about TCAA’s Plein Air outings: “Members and guests can paint or sketch together at various locations, usually on Tuesdays. What is Plein Air? It means “Fresh Air” and is a technique created by the impressionists, to paint or sketch live while outdoors. Our group is diverse, from beginners to very polished. Our mediums include but are not limited to pastels, oil pastels, pencils, watercolor and acrylic. It is a way to refine your skills, have some fun, socialize and learn.”  – June Mita
